Official Rules

Business Scholarships:

Business Startup Scholarship Award – one monetary scholarship worth $1,000 (awarded by SBDC during scholarship award ceremony April 15, 2010)

1st Place - 14 – 18 year old category - one scholarship worth $500

1st Place – 19 – 27 year old category – one scholarship worth $500

Audience Favorite - one scholarship $300 each

HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS COMPETITION:
REGISTERING FOR COMPETITION. Register to enter this competition at http://www.sbdcsc.org/ by midnight February 19, 2010. To continue eligibility in competition, all deadlines as outlined in Deadlines and Dates must be met. You must agree ("opt-in") to receive email from SBDC.
ELIGIBILITY: All legal U.S. residents residing in the California counties of Shasta, Trinity, or Siskiyou who are 14 to 27 years at the closing date of the SBDC YEP Business Concept & Elevator Pitch Competition, April 15, 2010, may participate in this SBDC YEP Business Concept & Elevator Pitch Competition. Those under the age of 18 must have parental permission to enter the competition. By entering this SBDC YEP Business Concept & Elevator Pitch Competition you represent to SBDC that you are either at least 18 years of age or have consent from a parent/legal guardian. Employees of SBDC and its immediate families and members of their households are not eligible to participate in this SBDC YEP Business Concept & Elevator Pitch Competition. By registering to win the scholarship, the winner grants SBDC permission to use his/her name (including screen name) and likeness for advertising and future promotion purposes without additional compensation (except where prohibited by law). Unaccepted scholarships may not be awarded. This SBDC YEP Business Concept & Elevator Pitch Competition is subject to these complete and official rules.
SELECTION OF WINNERS. Winners will be selected by the panel of judges selected by SBDC on the afternoon of April 15, 2010, for the SBDC YEP Business Concept & Elevator Pitch Competition. The winners must be present to win. SBDC reserves the right to modify scheduling of the SBDC YEP Business Concept & Elevator Pitch Competition without prior notice. If the judges determine in their sole discretion that there is any suspected or actual electronic tampering with the entries that may compromise the integrity of the competition, the judges reserve the right to void the entries at issue, and/or terminate the competition. SBDC may require winners to provide proof that they are the authorized account holders of the email addresses used to enter the SBDC YEP Business Concept & Elevator Pitch Competition. "Authorized account holder" is defined as the natural person who is assigned to an email address by an Internet service provider, online service provider, or organization (e.g., business, educational institution, etc.) that is responsible for assigning email addresses for the domain associated with the email address. Any winner who does not comply with the official rules will be disqualified and an alternate scholarship winner will be selected.
NOTIFICATION: Scholarship winners will be notified during the award ceremony at the conclusion of the SBDC YEP Business Concept & Elevator Pitch Competition. All winners of the SBDC YEP Business Concept & Elevator Pitch Competition are to be posted on the SBDC YEP web site 72 hours after the competition ends. Email SBDC at kwilson@shastacollege.edu. SBDC is under no obligation to notify finalists by any means other than e-mail. SBDC is not responsible for notifications that are misdirected or not received because of email addresses or mailing addresses that are no longer correct. If a potential finalist cannot be reached after a reasonable effort has been made during one business day from the first notification attempt, such person may be disqualified, with an alternate winner selected. Any scholarship notification or scholarship returned as undeliverable will result in the awarding of that scholarship to an alternate winner.
REDEMPTION: SBDC will deliver the scholarships as follows. Each scholarship will be awarded to the appropriate winner's within 14 business days after completing appropriate documentation at the SBDC office. Scholarships are non-transferable and no substitutions are allowed except by permission of SBDC.
CONDITIONS: By participating in the SBDC YEP Business Concept & Elevator Pitch Competition, you agree to release and hold SBDC and its directors, officers, employees and agents, and all scholarship suppliers harmless from any and all losses, damages, rights, claims, and actions of any kind in connection with the SBDC YEP Business Concept & Elevator Pitch Competition or any product purchased, or resulting from acceptance, possession, use or misuse of any scholarship awards, including, without limitation, personal injuries, death, and property damage, and claims based on publicity rights, defamation, or invasion of privacy, whether suffered by you or a third party. This SBDC YEP Business Concept & Elevator Pitch Competition is void wherever prohibited or restricted by law and is subject to all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations. By participating, entrants agree to be bound by these official rules and the decisions of SBDC and waive any right to claim ambiguity in the SBDC YEP Business Concept & Elevator Pitch Competition or these official rules. All decisions regarding the SBDC YEP Business Concept & Elevator Pitch Competition, including, but not limited to, selecting scholarship winners, will be made by SBDC, whose decisions shall be final. Scholarship winners are solely responsible for all applicable federal, state and local taxes.
LIST OF SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS: For a written list of scholarship winners, mail by May 15, 2010, a self-addressed stamped envelope, accompanied by a hand-printed request indicating "Scholarship Winners List", to SBDC YEP Business Concept & Elevator Pitch Competition, SBDC, 1420 Butte Street, Redding, CA 96001. All requests must be received between April 18 and May 15. Administrator: SBDC, 1420 Butte Street, Redding, CA 96001. SBDC YEP Business Concept & Elevator Pitch Competition is governed by U.S. law. The names, logos, and icons identifying the products and services of SBDC are proprietary marks of SBDC. SBDC YEP Business Concept & Elevator Pitch Competition rules are subject to change at any time without notice.
SBDC is not responsible for errors, omissions, interruptions, deletions, defects in part or whole, delays in operations or transmission, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to or alterations of entry materials, or for any technical or non-technical network, telephonic, electronic, computer, hardware or software malfunctions of any kind, or inaccurate or partial transmission of or failure to receive entry information by SBDC on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet, at any web site or any combination thereof. SBDC is not responsible for any injury or damage to entrants or any other person's computer related to or resulting from playing or downloading any materials in the SBDC YEP Business Concept & Elevator Pitch Competition, or for entries that are lost, late, misdirected, damaged, incomplete, altered, or illegible. All entries remain the contestants’ property but will not be returned without written request sent by May 15, 2010, to Small Business Development Center, 1420 Butte Street. Redding, CA 96001. SBDC reserves the right to cancel temporarily or permanently the electronic method of SBDC YEP Business Concept & Elevator Pitch Competition entries if it becomes technically corrupted.
DISQUALIFICATION: All of your entries in this and all other competitions sponsored by SBDC in the past, present, or future, will be automatically disqualified without notice or recourse if you promote the competition through unsolicited commercial email, multiple repetitive postings to UseNet Newsgroups or even one posting to inappropriate UseNet Newsgroups.
All of your entries will be disqualified, at the sole discretion of SBDC, if you attempt (i) to enter the SBDC YEP Business Concept & Elevator Pitch Competition through any means other than as described in these official rules; or (ii) to disrupt the SBDC YEP Business Concept & Elevator Pitch Competition, circumvent the terms and conditions of these official rules, or in any way tamper with SBDC YEP Business Concept & Elevator Pitch Competition. If either of the above occurs, SBDC has the right to remedy any such action, disruption, or circumvention, and to seek damages from you to the fullest extent permitted by law.
